Back from Some Time Off
It’s been too long…I’m supposed to be blogging at least every other day which is what I promised myself I would do. Well, at least I’m not breaking the promise I made to myself about exercising…I don’t regularly work out and I never promised myself I would. I am almost at that…wait! was that a drum I just heard? it sounded like bu-da-bump-chihh (sp?). What I was saying was that I am almost at that point where I’m not going to make time to work out, I accept it, I don’t feel guilty and I still love myself (wait til I get me home…grrr). It reminds me of the years of guilt I felt about not attending Sunday service. I was born catholic (of the roman persuasion) and those nuns made a lasting impression on me…not only on my ass with their rulers but on my fragile emotions (anyone need a tissue?). I felt guilty for years about not going to mass. Eventually, I broke the rosary bead shackles and am now much happier being guilt-free. I am still very much spiritual but I don’t feel the power of Christ compelling me to go to the religious store every Sunday (or at least two days a year – Santa’s birthday and the Easter Bunny’s funeral) and play church. Organized religion is just not for me.
Hmm…maybe I shouldn’t be too hasty…I might be more productive if I did work out. Stop…I really don’t have time for flip-flopping…I have work to do. But first I want to smudge. OK…I’m back…I had to remove the batteries from the smoke detector to get it to finally shut up.
Where was I going with this? Oh yeah…I was telling you that I am blogging again but you probably already figured that out. During my time off from blogging I took some time off. I took 3 day trips – 2 to the Joisey shore and 1 to a zoo 5 1/2 hours away. The zoo is home to a pair of sacred buffaloes (check out Sacred White and Black Buffalo in Danger for more info).

They are going out of business (the zoo not the buffaloes) so we wanted to see them (the buffaloes not the zookeepers) in case it was our last opportunity.
Anyway…on 2 of the road trips, I was able to do a lot of brainstorming on the long car rides and come up with some self-proclaimed great ideas (won’t know for sure how great until their putting pasta on the table). I wrote about the first in My First Customer in which I decided one of my primary sources of income will be starting a business doing web design.
The second brainstorming trip (does that sound like a reaction to illegal drugs?) was the day of our pilgrimage to the Woodland Zoo this past Wednesday. I now have some ideas about my company logo and some secondary ways to make money – ideas for a couple websites inspired by my twisted sense of humor. Clench your cheeks and pray (foreshadowing fer yous literit types).
So, I think I should start spending a day a week taking a long trip away from the distractions of everything that “needs” to get done. It will force me to meditate and perhaps lead to even more ideas…which will add to the list of things that “need” to get done…but at least they are things that I am doing for me.
P.S. As far as the third day trip, it produced nothing but a couple of naps, witnessing a car fire, hearing kids talk in World of Warcraft instead of English, fun with the greatest family I could ask for and gas all night long from the lettuce on my Whopper. I hope it didn’t wake up my wife too many times like it did me.
